Local Licence Applicant Guide
Whitby is Durham Region's administrative centre, housing regional government offices, Ontario courts, and a broad network of professional and healthcare employers. Those performing licensable security work at government facilities, court-adjacent operations, or healthcare campuses should confirm current Ontario licensing requirements and any applicable exemptions with the relevant authority. Where a licence is required, a CRJMC must be included in the Service Ontario application — consult Ontario's current licence guidance page for provider and submission requirements.
Before ordering any background check, the requester or recipient — typically guided by their employer — must determine the correct check type. A CRJMC covers criminal records and judicial matters. A vulnerable sector check is a legally distinct product: it requires a separate process, involves additional steps, and is applicable only to positions involving regular, unsupervised contact with vulnerable individuals. It is not interchangeable with a CRJMC. Confirm the requirement with your employer or licensing body before applying.
Whitby hosts Durham Region's administrative headquarters and Ontario court facilities. Those performing licensable security work at these sites should confirm current Ontario licence requirements — a CRJMC is the check type described on Ontario's licence application page.

Durham Regional Police Service, headquartered in Whitby, operates an official online portal for local police record checks. This is an official local resource; follow Ontario's licence guidance and the requester's direction to determine which check type your situation requires.
A Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC), also called a Level II police check, is one type of police record check. Confirm the current check requirement, issuer, format, recency, and acceptance directly with the licensing authority before ordering.
